Ericeira: Where Heritage Meets the Atlantic
Exploring Portugal's World Surfing Reserve and its unexpected connection to North African textile culture.

Ericeira sits on a stretch of Portuguese coastline that has been shaped by the Atlantic for millennia. In 2011, it became a World Surfing Reserve — only the second in Europe. But long before the surf community discovered its perfect point breaks, this coast was a meeting point of cultures.
For centuries, trade routes connected North Africa to the Iberian Peninsula. Textiles, spices, and knowledge flowed across the Mediterranean. The wool traditions of Tunisia and the maritime culture of Portugal share more DNA than you might think — both are rooted in functionality, both respect natural materials, and both have been refined over generations.
When we bring a Qashabiya to the cliffs of Ericeira, we're not creating a clash of cultures. We're completing a circle that was drawn centuries ago.
